Stock Donkey Derby - Brentwood
Lions Club - 1st September 2013
The Donkeys were in fine fettle, the weather was sunny and warm and despite the 'last minute' change of venue, the 2013 Stock Donkey Derby was a roaring success. After two years on the field beside The Old King's Head, we were obliged to revert to Brocks Farm on the Ingatestone Road, thanks to Ed Napp, who inherited the property from his late Father, earlier this year.
The organisation of this event relies upon a considerable exertion from certain Members of Brentwood Lions Club, namely Mac McAllister, Martin Hardwick-Smith and Roger McLaren. Their efforts are supported by local residents including Phil Cottee, Stuart and Jo Oldham, Ed Napp, Nick Priestley, Doug Rees, John Salkin and Colin Weaver. We thank them all.
In attendance was Tayler Goatier with her new 3 wheeled mobility scooter which was provided as a result of funds raised at last year's event. Tayler has won a place
at University and her scooter will make it possible for her to get around the university campus almost as easily as able-bodied students.
We were also able to donate about £2,000 to Jay's Hospice from last year's event.
This year the proceedings commenced with dances performed by the Helen Arber Performing Arts Stage School from Billericay. Their performance was excellent and put everyone in the mood to enjoy the afternoon.
At this time the accounts are not finalised but it appears that the event raised between £3,000 and £4,000 all of which will be donated to worthy causes.
